New File Here App Reviews

bad app

It doesn’t ressemble in anything the windows new file right click menu. If you click on the background of the open folder, you don’t get the option. You need to click on a file. It is hidden in the more generic services submenu. Arrghh! Apple! Why don’t you implement this, it’s such a useful feature. You can have it in windows, you can have it with Nautilus under Linux Gnome. How hard can it be and it’s so useful! Best desktop in the world...

Bad

Waste of money. Should add other file extensions such as .doc, .ppt, .xls……etc.. DO NOT GET

Doesn’t work as Shown af all !

The image presented tricks into beleiving it is intergrated into finder which is not the case ! Each time you want a new kind of document, you need to waste time reconficonfigurating it again ! Even if you only need to use it with one specific type, It always remember only the last path … It is useless and painful

Unfortunately not useful for me

I was hoping to be able to right-click in an open finder window and create a file in that spot. Instead I can only right-click on a folder, to create a file inside that folder. There are also windows and dialogs involved with making a new file, where I just want to be able to: right-click, see the file appear in place, and then rename it (and it’s extension) in place. Unfortuantely I will be going back to using the terminal and the ‘touch’ command to create files.

Good, but...

It works pretty well, the only problem is that it doesn’t change the extension in the name of the file you’re trying to create. So, even if you select a different “File Format” from the list, the one in the file name will stay the same and you have to change it manually. This makes the app almost unuseful, apart from the “Show File Panel” option. Please fix this and it will be a great app!

No option in Services Menu for a new file.

10.8.5 There is no option in the Services Menu to add a new document. I made sure the Add New Document Service was checked in the Services Keyboard Pref Pane. I then relaunched the Finder. No go. The menu bar option to create a text file works. Thanks ... Ken

Useful productivity tool; just read the instructions.

I wanteed to be able to just point my mouse in a Finder window and be able to create a new document right there. I was all set to do an AppleScript solution when I found this app. For a $1 it seemed like a better choice than perhaps spending an hour or more of my time coming up with my own solution. This utility puts an icon in the menu bar, but more important it gives me the right-click create-it-here function I wanted. Well it did, after I figured out how to use it. First mistake I made was right-clicking in the blank space in a Finder window. This doesn’t work. As the instructions say, you need to right-click on a folder/file. The next surprise was not seeing the “New File Here”. On my Mavericks machine, I needed to look in “Services” at the bottom of the right-click menu. This is also mentioned in the instructions. There is a long list of pre-defined templates. What you want is probably already here. Creating new templates is straightforward. Your custom templates can live anywhere, but you may want to create a separate folder for all of them. Just give the template a descriptive name, and give it the desired file extension (.txt, .css .html, .numbers, etc.). Then using the icon in the menu bar, select preferences, hit the “+” button, and navigate to your template. One last feature which is a nice touch — in the preferences/template list, you can select “Executable” so that the new file is created with the correct file permissions. Bottom line — I could have spent hours building something myself, and it would not have been as nice as this. A dollar well spent! Thanks to the author for publishing this utility.

Just so so

Sometimes, this app has no response.

Useful little app!

I love this little app!

Amazing!

This little useful app made my life more simple. Thanks to developers!

Easy to use

It makes me more easy to crate a new file. Thankz!

Its nothing like I expected.

"New File Here" shows up under the "Services" sub-menu, and only on certain things. That is not like what the screenshots show for the program. You cannot simply right-click on your Desktop or in a folder and create a new file (it works when right-clicking on a sub-folder, or on a file, which makes no sense). If you do find a folder/location where the "Services" option appears on the right-click menu, then click "New File Here", you may end up waiting 6+ seconds for the program to actually load a dialog window (instead of, you know, creating a new file). This is on a brand-new, Core i7 system with 16GB of RAM and SSD. Firefox loads way faster than this program. When you use it, it loads its own icon up by your clock, which is pretty ugly and stands out compared to everything else.

a waste

it wont even open and when i try to use it on files that it said it would open i just gave me a useless text file

How did this get on my computer?

Never wanted it. Thought it I found Gov spyware on it for a moment.

Where did this come from

What even is this and how did it get on my machine. i did not install this and it’s a useless app to put a new file here….give me a break. delete!

Nice little app

I find this app to be quite useful espcially to make new textile on the desktop on the go. It will be great to see ‘Newfile here’ in the contextual menu on right clicking on the desktop.

Hoped tool

This app is just what I really needed !

Impressed !

This app is impressed, very useful.

Wasn’t what I was expecting.

Works, but is quite awkward. Not quite what I was expecting. This is not as the context menu in Windows.

Rating solicitation appears at times when it can’t be dismissed

Action: Invoke New File Here Result: Rating request appears on top of the modal Save File window. Even though it’s in front of the Save window, it’s buttons are inaccessible because the Save dialog controls focus. If you click on Save window, you can save your file and both windows disappear. Thus begins a cycle of the Ratings dialog appearing when you can’t interact with it and disappearing when you can. I was able to invoke it manually by launching New File Here directly from my Applications folder. From here, you can either rate the app or dismiss the request. This is pretty poor design. The app works reasonably well, otherwise.
